Yes, I’m willing to bet good money, that you squinted when you read the title. I mean what other reason could there be to use Cialis besides erectile dysfunction?
Turns out, quite a few.
Cialis has been on the market legally for erectile dysfunction treatment since 2003. And it turns out it also has some additional health and performance benefits, like the following.
Prostate health
In 2011 Tadalafil (Cialis) has been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for the treatment of BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia). This is a condition in which the prostate gland enlarges.
There is a variety of signs and symptoms that include the following:
- difficulty in starting urination
- a weakened urine flow which causes stopping and starting
- strain when passing urine
- urinating too frequently
- waking up in the night often to urinate (Nocturia)
- a sudden urge to urinate which can result in incontinence if a toilet is not found immediately
- inability to fully empty the bladder during urination, and sometimes even blood in urine.
Two human studies demonstrated that patients with BPH who were prescribed 5 mg of tadalafil once a day had statistically significant improvements in BPH symptoms, compared to those on a placebo.
A study reviewed by FDA showed that males with both BPH and ED combined who were given 5 mg of tadalafil had improvements in both conditions, compared to those in the placebo group.
Lowers blood pressure
Cialis and Viagra were actually originally developed to treat high blood pressure.
Tadalafil relaxes the muscle cells in the walls of the blood vessels, allowing them to become wider (dilated). As a result, this reduces the pressure in these blood vessels and allows blood to flow more easily through them.
So although it does not dramatically lower blood pressure, it will help most guys struggling with hypertension.
Increases vascularity and blood flow
Cialis increases blood flow – well that’s what erections are about right? Well, this can also have important health benefits throughout the body because a lack of circulation can effect many tissues including those in the brain.
It increases the important Flow Mediated Dilatation – when blood flow increases through a vessel the vessel dilates.
One four-week study of males (average age of 54) found that Cialis use induced profound and highly desireable cardiovascular and endothelial changes, including increases in the all – important Flow Mediated Dilation (Aversa et al., 2007).
Blood flow increases through the whole body, which also means your muscles. Because of that your vascularity increases and you achieve better pumps at the gym.
It beats pump pre-workout products shady supplement companies want to sell you by miles, therefore it’s a way better option.
Cialis improves testosterone: estrogen ratio
Using Cialis long term has been shown to significantly improve the all-important testosterone to estrogen ratio by an average of 24%. A one year study of males with an average age of 54 showed an increase in testosterone of 5.5% and a decrease in estrogen of 15%.
These are actually significant numbers and show the power of getting “back in the sack” so to speak. Remember that the 24% increase means you have significantly more testosterone molecules floating around versus estrogen. For us guys, that’s always a good thing (Greco et al., 2006).
Tadalafil achieves this by preventing the enzyme aromatase to convert testosterone to estrogen.
For your relationship
While sex isn’t the end all be all in a relationship, it is VERY important. There are many documented benefits of making love. Cialis likely increases many, if not all, of these benefits.
Cialis just like Viagra has many studies showing that it decreases the refractory period. This is the time post-ejaculation that it takes for guys to recover before they can become erect again. As a result round two can start sooner.
A 12-month study for guys with erectile dysfunction and a significant percentage of them had improved the relationship with their partner after starting Cialis. It’s a result that strongly suggests what we already know, sex really does matter (Verheyden et al,. 2009).
Why Cialis and not Viagra or Levitra
Well considering that I sadly don’t own stock in any of these companies it comes down to performance and effects. And here is where Cialis flat out beats Viagra and Levitra.
- You don’t need to take it on an empty stomach
- It starts working sooner
- It lasts longer and builds up in the system
- It’s cheaper and you can use it daily
At a lower dosage (5mg) you can use it every day and reap the long-term health and performance benefits that come with its use.
Until next time.
Yours truly, Ivan.
